Everyone wants to get the best blogging photographs. Blogging is a huge business these days, whether you are just starting out, or a pro-blogger looking to increase your audience base, content rules! What’s important to remember is that your imagery on your blog is also content- and like your words, it helps to keep your audience engaged over time. It’s OK to source photos and videos from all over the web or purchase stock content, but creating your own images is what will help you and your website stand out! This post contains affiliate links, and I will receive compensation if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.

Now you may be thinking, ‘I don’t have time for that’, ‘I don’t know where to start’, or ‘I don’t have a big budget for camera gear’. Don’t worry! RitzCamera can provide you with the products you need to get the job done well, all at an affordable price with products you know and trust.

Learning to take great photo’s doesn’t just happen overnight, so here are a few tricks to get you started.

Lighting:

It can be your friend and your enemy. Take the time to explore it and notice the types of shadows it creates, soft or hard? Soft-edged shadows from a diffused light source often create a more flattering look for your subject (people OR products) than a hard-edged shadow. If you find you need some tools to help you diffuse light or create it, check out these

Tripod:

A good sturdy support for your camera lets you take incredibly sharp and detailed photos or perfectly steady video that helps to bring viewers to your site and keeps them coming back. Basic tripods are a good start, but an upgrade will make your life easier in the long run. With a tripod, you can use shutter times of 10 seconds or more to get perfectly sharp and detailed product photos.

Top Deals on all Photography Needs

Camera:

Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Fuji, etc, everyone has a brand they prefer. The best thing about each of these brands is that they provide equipment for amateurs and professionals alike, ranging in prices and accessories. So if you’re just starting out, I’d recommend a basic DSLR, such as Canon T6, or Nikon D3400 to help you get the job done. Use the lowest ISO you can to get the most detailed photos with the lowest digital noise (colored spots and general “grittyness” in the look of the final photo).

Lenses:

Most basic cameras come with a lens that is well matched for general use (usually an 18-55mm kit lens for Canon/Nikon). It can, of course, be upgraded for specialized applications like Macro-photography to highlight product details or a telephoto lens which is better for portraits. Whatever lens you use, try to shoot it “stopped down” 2-3 stops from max (between f/4 and f/8) which is where it is usually the sharpest. The tripod will help with the longer exposure times this may need when shooting indoors.

Budget:

No matter your price range, you will be able to find just the right products and accessories online. Check out RitzCamera’s range of DSLRs and lenses, look for deals and also receive free shipping!

  1. I don’t have the equipment to do this properly but the concept of lighting in photography is so interesting to me. I picked up a few free digital photography mags to learn a bit more and they may be over my head right now, but it’s a start. My interest is just for a hobby but these are good tips nonetheless. Thanks!

  2. Great post im not the greatest photographer but with this post i just may capture some amazing shots..

  3. I dont blog, but would love to get the right things to take great pictures of wildlife and in the summers when we raise our monarchs! I have so much to learn about photography!

  4. My hopefully next big purchase will be a good camera. I love to go on hikes or walks to see the beautiful cloud formation, animals in the brush, the eagle right behind my house and so much more. I don’t have a good camera but sure would love one.

  5. These are great tips! I need a new camera so I can capture some beautiful sights. Thank you!

  6. Since my blog is mostly about my daughter and life after she died by suicide, I usually use pictures that she is in. I can’t retake them unfortunately, so not all of them are the best. I really do need to invest in the time and money to get myself a nice camera again and start exploring and experimenting with it.

  7. I am by no means any time of blogger but this information is really helpful for just people who enjoy social media, etc. Great tips!
